Victorian Country Thoroughbred Festival – New Initiative
Supported by the State Government, Racing Victoria and Country Racing Victoria the Seymour Racing Club has launched the 2007 Victorian Country Thoroughbred Festival.
A new initiative this Festival incorporates a tourism and hospitality 3 day program including stud and winery tours, an equine trade expo, education and training together with a race day hosted by the Seymour Racing Club
Country Racing Victoria Chairman Michael Caveny said “this festival will create a significant regionally based racing and tourism event as well as highlighting the importance of racing and breeding to the Seymour region”. This equine event will unite the thoroughbred tourism industries within the Mitchell and Strathbogie Shires and reaffirm country racings position in Victoria as a vital part of the economic and social fabric in this area.”
Country racing contributes $21.3 million of the economic activity generated in the Mitchell local government area. These figures are obtained from the recent ‘Country Racing Economic and Social Impact Study’ which showed that racing and breeding contributes $1.046 billion to Victoria and $808 million to regional Victoria alone.
“We are very excited that Seymour has launched this initiative which will bring further success to Victorian Country Racing” said Chairman Michael Caveny
